Introducing - The Art of Practice

The Art of Practice

This first post is a quick explainer behind the blog series that I am calling “The Art of Practice”. When it comes to practising on guitar, there is a lot more to it than just playing a few notes… at least, if you want to reach a higher level with your playing, it is going to take a lot more than playing a few notes.

You have to have dedication, self discipline, motivation, drive, mindset, focus…. whatever word you use - you need it. And the greater the level you want to achieve, the more it you are going to need.

There are methods and strategies to learning that can help us progress faster. There are ways the brain works that we can use to our advantage and incorporate into our practising, that will help us get better results in our playing - faster.

There is a quote I like that sums things up nicely:

Internal victories precede external victories.

Steven Covey

And this blog, is going to be about the internal victories, that will manifest into the external victories we desire.

Wherever you are at with your playing, you can take it to the next level. But to do so, you have to be the right person to take it to the next level.

If you don’t have the self discipline to practice, you aren’t going to make progress.

If you are crippled by self doubt, you aren’t going to write that song you always wanted to.

If you can’t control and schedule your time, even if you have the desire to practice… it isn’t going to happen.

This is what we are going to talk about in The Art of Practice.
